![]() ![]() Thanks a lot Adam and Edward (EDIT: and rico!). The Aria is my favorite, being the lightest, most automated, and most quiet the S2 can be used without batteries the 159MM is an S2 with exposure automation the 139Q is cheapest and has the true RTS shutter release (breath on it, shutter fires). The "small" bodies in my Contax collection include the 139Q, 159MM, S2 and Aria. The mechanical aspects are a cool throwback, including the selftimer. The S2 is priced as a special edition, even though it's little more than an FM2n with C/Y mount - okay, a titanium FM2n. Apart from that, it is a wonderful classic. I also find the shutter dial to be a bit too stiff, and the titanium covering easy to scratch. ![]() What I didn't like is that one can have only one choice of metering, spot with the S2 and average with the S2b. I love the fact that it was fully mechanical, and the VF was exquisite. I used to have two of them despite the price. If you hunt enough, sometimes an RX can be found for a reasonable cost (ie under $200).Īside from the RTSIII, most of the Contax bodies are reasonably compact, even the ones considered large at the time (the RTS and RTSII) are small by today's standards.Īgreed with mawz, but still the S2 is one of my favorites. ![]() Contax/Yashica mount offers you three options in bodies, crude (the Yashica FX-3/FX-7), flaky (all the other reasonably priced options) or expensive (the RX series, Aria, S series, RTSIII or AX). The S2 is rather nice, but wildly overpriced for what you get (consider that it is essentially identical in specification to a Nikon FM2n, but costs 2 or more times as much). I'd be most grateful for any insights in this camera, or any other (small) in the Contax SLR line. And the simplicity in itself is appealing, but would also imply that not too much can break down. What I like is that it is (supposedly) very small. But I guess that would be all I need, I assume you would use the time or aperture dials until the meter says "ok". The S2 is a very simple one, all manual - the only thing it offers is light metering. So I took a look on the Contax range of cameras. It seem they can be had for not-that-much.īut then I have a whole range of really nice CY lenses which I use on the 5D2. Originally the idea was to get a Hasselblad with a say 80mm or wider lens. Increasingly I've been glancing at film cameras for some time. ![]()
